Fleas

Fleas are definitely a pest that can be difficult to get rid of. First and foremost, receiving a preventative from your vet ASAP is important. Revolution Plus is a highly recommended brand by veterinarians. Be sure to consult your vet for current weight and proper dosage.

It is crucial to vacuum and clean all floors, bedding, furniture, toys, scratching posts, etc. that your cat has come in contact with. Due to the life cycle of fleas, it is important to do this once a week for a couple weeks (depending on the severity of infestation).

Giving your cat a flea bath will kill all fleas that are on the cat at that time, as well as remove all flea dirt (feces) from their coat. Fleas can hide in the crevices of cats such as their nose, eyes, mouth, and private area. For this reason, it is important to follow-up with a flea prevention along with the bath.

Feline Purfection does not use any chemicals or dips, as cats are very sensitive. A gentle shampoo with a mild scent is used that will kill fleas on the surface of the cat. This shampoo sits for 15min on the cat before being rinsed. The cat is wrapped in a warm towel for the duration of the treatment process.

Recommended Tools to Use at Home

In Between Grooms

Chris Christianson Cat Comb : Mat prevention and at-home maintenance between grooms are imperative to help your kitty stay mat-free and comfortable. This comb is wonderful for cats due to the teeth being very close together, making it difficult to allow a mat or knot slip through. For best results, ensure you are combing all the way down to the skin and not just the top of their coat. (available for purchase at Feline Purfection)

Kong Cat ZoomGroom : Shedding happens. All over the furniture, clothes, and pretty much anywhere your kitty has access to! Don’t worry- there are solutions! The Kong Cat ZoomGroom has a soft rubber texture that helps to remove dead coat without damaging the healthy coat. Bathing every 4-6 weeks is recommended to throughly remove built-up dead skin and undercoat and prevent shedding. (available for purchase at Feline Purfection)
